This Thursday, March 18th @ 6:30pm, Green Spring Hunt Clubhouse.... Informational meeting for juniors interested the Governor's Cup Series. Topics covered include : preparing for and what to expect on race day, rules, and negotiating a race course safely. This unmounted clinic is FREE, all are welcome. This clinic is done in conjunction with the Maryland Combined Training Association and will focus on control, pace, and course navigation. The clinic will be held on and around an actually point to point course.

NAPPA SUMMER YOUNG RIDER CAMP/CLINIC- Sunday, August 2nd- Thursday, August 6th, 2009
Application deadline is July 10th for this years camp/clinic. This experience is for young riders 15-18 years old who wish to pursue a career in the steeplechasing industry. This camp is open to only six NAPPA members at the cost of $375 each. Qualifications: 15-18 years old, racing/galloping experience, applicants must provide a written essay on why they want to attend this camp and TWO letters of reccomendation from horse professionals. Students will be working/riding for trainers in VA, MD, and PA and the trip finale will be a visit to Saratoga Race Course on a steeplechase racing day. CONGRATULATIONS!
The Marlborough Pony Club won this years Smithwick Award, which is given to the group of young riders who accumulated the most points in the Maryland Governor's Cup Series of junior and young rider races. MPC will be receiving a $500 check for earning the most points, Green Spring Valley Hunt Cup was the runner up. MPC has Erin Bottner and Paige Valle to thank for being their top point earners. Way to go girls!

*YOUNG RIDER GROUP AWARDS
There will be two new awards for young riders given at the end of the Spr ing 2008 Pt-to-Pt Season. A $500 cash prize will be presented to the group (foxhunt, beagle pack, or pony club) whose members accumulate the most points in races this spring. All rider's wishing to earn points for their "group" must submit and eligibility form... which will be available for download shortly on this site. The form will verify that you are indeed a current member of your group. Stay tuned for more details and complete set of rules.

This is a good refreasher course for experienced young riders, as well as a great orientation for those young riders who are interested, but have never raced. Local trainers and jockeys will give an unmounted talk followed by a mounted instruction. Clinic will concentrate on racecourse saftey, pace, fitness, control, and racing techniques and tactics. Bring your own mount, release form, protective vest, approved helmet, and neg. coggins required. Clinic will last approximately 3 hours. NAPPA members are FREE, non members $25.
